Need help with scripting for tab controls

I wonder if anybody can help me with some scripting. I am trying to use JQuery to make some tabs in my topics. I got everything working, but I have a couple of problems remaining that I can't solve. I have attached a small project.

When you open a topic with tabs for the first time, the tabs do not appear.
Refreshing the topic makes the tabs appear and they work fine after that.
To see this happen, compile the project and open the topic Tab Sample. Refresh the page to see the tabs.

The scripting for the tabs seems to prevent turning off the search highlighting.
To see this happen, search for proin. This word appears in all the topics. Look at the topics from the search list and click the (Remove highlights) button in the upper right to turn off the highlighting. In topics with tabs, the button does nothing. In a topic without tabs (Startup), the highlighting turns off.

Any ideas?
