Unable to delete folder containing Flare project

Post by EileenP »

Hi, I am unable to use Windows Explorer to delete (actually send to Recycler) a Flare project without first deleting every single subdirectory first, starting at the level furthest out. I get an error message: "Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from DOMAIN\MyName to make changes to this folder."

Are there permissions that need to be adjusted somewhere in Flare?

I tried changing the properties of every single file and folder to Read/Write. That didn't work.

Ironically, I can actually *erase* the files using Shift+Delete, which doesn't send them to the Recycler but actually deletes them from the hard drive, as I understand it. Doesn't it seem like that should be harder to do than sending them to the Recycler?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Do you use source control?
You could also copy and paste the entire folder into the recycle bin and then delete the original with a Shift+Delete.

Windows Explorer can be a strange beast, particularly if you are working over a network.

We have lots of issues with deleting files, similar to what you have described, albeit we are working with Word documents, jpgs, pngs, and pdfs.

There seem to be several issues.

1. If you are using the preview pane in explorer to quick view files it seems to lock files.
2. If you have accessed files using Outlook it will lock files, usually until you close Outlook.
3. Snagit locks files.

Quite often the way around it is to copy a file or folder to the new location, select a file in the copied folder (or anywhere else other than the original) and then delete the original.

I suspect it is something to do with the way Windows is indexing files.

Of course, if you are using source control there can be a whole raft of things happening...
