Creating a Snippet from a table!

Post by sdcinvan »

Hello all and happy Friday!

I figured this deserved its own thread.

Looking though the forum, I noticed that this snippet issue has existed for quite some time. That is, when blocking content to create a snippet, if you select a table, the Snippet button becomes disabled. The only way to create a table snippet is by manually inserting the table's HTML into a blank Snippet.

This normally works well but yesterday, I was consistently crashing Flare (v10.2.1) after inserting the HTML code and switching back to the XML editor. The XML editor immediately displays a BIG RED X and Flare crashed with the following error:

Strangely enough, I tried again this morning with same document, exact same HTML (still pasted in Notepad) and it worked! I have no idea why it works today but I am happy.

Anyhow, regarding this Snippet button deactivation, has anyone else reported this bug?

Hi Shawn,

I have also been struggling with converting tables to snippets (have not reported the disabled Snippet button, though).

However, instead of inserting the table's code into a blank snippet file, there is another easy way that works perfectly for me. Simply select your table and right click in the tag block on the left edge of the screen. The context menu will have the option to create a snippet from the selection. Works like a charm!

Brilliant suggestion! Thank you.

Interesting that when selecting the whole table that way, the menu bar Create Snippet button still deactivates. More evidence that this must be a bug.

This same issue continues today in Flare 12, a table within selected content dims the snippet button.

As a work around, I create a snippet with the text preceding the table (that's how most of our content is - text, tables, more text, etc), then go back and cut the table from the content and paste it into the snippet.

Not ideal and it means added steps but that works for me.

Nice idea, subquark. Our pal doc_guy aka Paul Pehrson offered a similar solution to yours. You should check it out: http://www.paulpehrson.com/2017/03/08/c ... -in-flare/
