I am trying to learn about the MadCap search. We are using Flare 9.
The content itself is managed in an XML-CMS. MadCap is the publishing engine. I am wondering why the HTML5 search does not provide any abstract but the title and the navigation path.
I read that flare takes the first lines if you do not enter a description. It seems to be the <h1> tag that is taken for creating the title of the result. The paragraph is not that far away but it is not displayed as abstract.
But what are the first lines? And which part of the following code prevents the creation of an abstract? I checked by removing some divs but the result stayed the same:
HTML Code (just the first lines of the body)
---------------------------------------
<body><table border="0" width="100%" class="breadcrumb_table" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td width="100%" class="td_breadcrumb_left"><span class="chm-breadcrumb"><a href="d37e104.htm">Move Paragraphs of a CMS message</a></span></td></tr></table><div id="mainbody"><div style="width: 95%" xml:space="preserve">
<div class="title_block"><div style="line-height:0;font-size:0;color:transparent;"><a name="ID_ddf4a5e9f29487f0c0a84283013a6bba-bc633218f2948793c0a842830016ce0f-en-GB">.</a></div>
<h1>Move Paragraphs of a CMS message</h1>
</div>
<div class="block_element"><div style="line-height:0;font-size:0;color:transparent;"><a name="ID_e5c9d129f29487f0c0a8428301f1556f-bc633218f2948793c0a842830016ce0f-en-GB">.</a></div><p>The paragraphs are transferred into the CMS in a predetermined order automatically. During the final inspection of the newsletter, it may be necessary that the order of the depicted editorial contributions is changed to match the content of the advertising blocks. In this case it is necessary to move the paragraph in the manner shown here.</p>

I hope anybody had the same problem.
Thank you for your help

Search abstract missing
Re: Search abstract missing
I installed Flare 12 and had a result similar to yours - a missing abstract for all topics in one of my help systems. I wanted to post a reply in case anyone else ends up with my specific problem. In my case, the help files have the content within tables (long story). In Flare 11, the content displayed just fine. What I didn't realize is that other folks consider Flare's ability to include, in the abstract, text from a table to be a bug. I can understand why. So, as the fine folks at Madcap explained to me "it appears this was a bug in Flare 11 that displayed the content from tables, and was not the intended behavior. The bug was resolved in Flare 12, and no longer shows table content for the abstract text. " They did offer to submit a feature request to optionally allow content from tables to be included in the abstract. For now, my only option is to create my own abstract for each topic by using the Description field on each topic. I could also get rid of my tables.
