HTML5 URL displays all paths

Post by bennetty »

When I publish my project to HTML5 I am getting the following URL for my topics:

...../help-en-us.htm#lessons/sharing a lesson.htm%3FTocPath%3DWorking%2520with%2520Lessons%7C_____4

To break it down:
lessons - is the folder the topic sits in
sharing a lesson.htm - is the topic
Working with Lessons - is the title of the TOC folder

I would like my URL to simply be:

...../help-en-us.htm/sharing a lesson.htm

and when I delete the rest of the text this works.

Can anyone help me in ensuring my URLs don't contain anything other than the above when I publish.

Many thanks

I think that what you have is normal for HTML 5 outputs. Take a look at Flare's Online Help. You can clean things up a bit by replacing spaces with underscores in your file names.

If you switch to WebHelp, the URL doesn't show any of that, just the main file name, e.g., Default.htm. Just curious as to why this is an issue?

Thanks for getting back to me Kwag_myers.

If this is normal then I'll just tidy it up with inserting '-' where the spaces are. Although I'm not sure why it created spaces as the Word files I imported don't have spaces but '-'.

It isn't an issue, it just doesn't look great, especially when it includes the TOC path.

From memory the cruft (technical term :P ) was added to fix a problem with getting the TOC to synchronise, but don't quote me on that. :)

Just to give you an update - I have achieved this by removing some javascript from one of the published files and it all works well :D . See this post for details:
