Cannot get style sheet to import from parent project

First, I have searched the help over and over and over and cannot seem to find a topic that addresses this issue directly.

I have linked my parent and child projects. I have selected to include the *.css files from the parent. However, the child project is not pulling in the styles from the parent. How do I fix this?

Welcome to the forums .

You might want to explore Global Project Linking.

In Effect, create your stylesheet in the master project.

Next, create a new import file in the Project Organiser. If you are only interested in the stylesheet you can limit the linking to .css files. When finished setting your import options you click import.

Then you can create your topics using the linked stylesheet. Set the topics to use the imported spreadsheet. (If it has imported correctly you should see it in the Content Explorer -> Resources -> Stylesheets folder).

I did all that and I see the style sheet under Resources > Stylesheets. However, when I open the Style Window, it shows only the styles pulled in with the *.chm file. Not the files from the parent project. I tried to Reimport and it didn't resolve the issue.

I had this same problem with another project and I have no idea how I got the styles to show up.

OK, if the stylesheet is in the project the chances are the stylesheet hasn't been assigned to the topic.

You can assign the stylesheet to a topic by right clicking the topic in the Content Explorer and selecting it on the topic properties tab. If the styleheet selection combo box is disabled you will need to open the Project Properties (the button is on the Project tab of the ribbon) and set the master stylesheet on the default tab of the project properties dialog box to Default.

You can also set the default stylesheet for the project using the Project Properties dialog box.

The other consideration using the styles pane is Flare will only display the styles from the stylesheet that can be assigned to the selected element. So, if you place the cursor in a paragraph you will only see the paragraph styles, such as p.image (depending on what styles are defined in the stylesheet). It will also display the generic styles, such as .PageBreakFollows, from the stylesheet.
