Broken link - XML file?

Post by smajors »

I generated a broken link report for an online help project and when I go to open the htm topic I get a pop-up message stating the file is not an XML file and asks if I want to convert to XML. I am now testing other topics in that folder and the topic directly below this one is giving me the same error, so I can't open it as normal to edit the topic. What is going on??

Generally it means that the code in the file is bad. Had you been making search-and-replace changes in the code of topics? You might have inadvertently introduced a coding error.

Yes, I was using find and replace. And now I keep getting the error "A new guard page for the stack cannot be created" when doing a find and replace, then Flare closes. I had started this to fix broken links from the link report and found that some old file tags were deleted and were still acting as if they were being applied, I thought the system would automatically remove them but it's still showing in the source code so I manually deleted it. Funny thing is I don't recall deleting it from this topic, I had done that in another topic unless it did end up replacing it and the code went bad as you mentioned.

Also I'm not sure why certain broken links like that do not show in the build error messages but do in the separate report you can generate.
