Hi,
I am importing many Word Files into Flare which contain hyphens in the filename and are lowercase, for example, 'user-management.docx'.
When the file is imported into Flare it creates an htm file which is automatically given the name 'User Management.htm'.
My first question is: why does it remove the hyphen and replace it with a space? It doesn't make sense to have a space in a URL.
My second question is: why is the name capitalized?
Does anyone know a work-around for this so that I don't have to manually change my htm file name every time I do an import?
Many thanks
Nic.

Re: Word filenames with hyphens converted to spaces on impor
Nic, just a quick guess - I think Flare picking up the text from a heading in the Word file, as opposed to the file name of doc...

The file name of the generated topic(s) is based on the heading in the text not the original file name.
If you want to customise the file names, you can do so by putting in Word private fields - read about it here:

Thank you both for the reply. You were correct, it was picking the filename up from the first heading.
I have now added the Field in word to customise the file name as described in the link. This works, but it still replaces the hyphen I've used in the custom filename with a space. Any further ideas?
Many thanks
Nic.

Sorry - no more ideas. Looks like a bug to me - submit here:

Maybe there is some historic reason - back when we used command lines more often, the hyphen, or minus sign was not permitted in filenames. I suspect I am still in that habit and so have never tried your example - I usually use underscores instead.

Yes I'll log it as a bug.
I have used underscores in the past, but these get lost in URL links and dashes are better for search engine optimization, so I am now in the habit of using dashes.
