Tablet Medium Skin - Help!

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to customise the HTML5 skin of a project that will have some users access the help via a browser on a PC AND on a Tablet. So hence my journey into Tablet Mediums... I'm a little confused as to whether I can even make changes to the Navigation pane that appears when the navigation slide out button is used. I've been reading the Style Guide and understand that I have enabled responsive output. My only other thoughts were along switching off the responsive output and customising to my hearts content. Happy to try that too. As you can probably tell I'm still finding my Flare Feet!

Hopefully the image below explains my queries. Ideally I would like to have the navigation pane open not so far, maybe 1/3 of the screen AND I'd like to see the Contents tab's Contents.

I don't think you can set the responsive menu width in the v10 HTML5 skin (and the v11 HTML5 tripane skin), but I posted a solution in this discussion:

Does anyone know how to set the color on the blocks and the font in them?
The window doesn't show those items, so I can't hover over them to find them.
(God, I only knows what I actually modified trying to figure this out. )

Nobody seemed to answer this part of the request. I would like to accomplish the same thing - by default, when the responsive Contents menu appears in Tablet medium, the first level of contents should be displayed without having to click on the Contents button. Can this be done?
