TOC first then Frontmatter. Why?

Post by Haz »

I am working on a PDF user guide and got the FrontPage into a mess so decided to start from scratch. I've located the new front page in Print Only Topics and identified it in protperties as Frontmatter. The problem is that although everything formats correctly, the peinted output puts theTOC listing first followed by the front page. I've tried in vain to work out how to identify where the TOC insertion point is, but no luck. Everything I look at in Help just tells me how to insert a TOC, just not where. TIA

This is a simple one to fix.

Create a new topic called "TOC" (or whatever you want to call it) and in that topic insert a TOC proxy.

Add the "TOC" topic to the TOC that your PDF target uses, and you can put the topic wherever you want your TOC to go.

Do the same with an "Index" topic as well if you need to.

Then turn OFF the automatically created TOC. Open the target and on the Advanced tab clear the "Generate TOC Proxy" (and "Generate Index Proxy") check boxes, to prevent you having TWO TOCs in your final PDF.

Tada!!!

Tada indeed. Thanks for that. It was an embarrassingly simple fix. :)
