Hi. Does anyone consider it useful to have more than 8GB RAM on a system running recent versions of Flare? Some forum threads suggest that might be the case.
Thanks.

More RAM is always better assuming you run a 64 bit OS. If it is necessary depends on what else you have running on the box.

Re: Is over 8GB RAM recommended for system running Flare 11
The question is bigger than Madcap!
Generally speaking, more RAM is better. RAM is temporary memory used by the active applications. It is fast access, so anything in RAM is quicker than getting it from the hard drive. It is volatile, meaning data is not retained in RAM should the power go down...
One thing to consider is your operating system. If you are running a 32 bit operating system, more than (about) 3.8 GB is wasted, the operating system cannot address the extra RAM. If you have a 64 bit system the limitation does not apply, even if you are using 32 bit versions of the software.
As time goes by, applications become resource hungry. I can remember speccing machines with 8Mb of RAM! More than enough for Office95, unless you had Access. Now 8GB is common...

8GB is a little more than standard.

Really? Unless you fish in the bargain bin 8GB is very standard.Grzyby15 wrote:8GB is a little more than standard.

Yes. I know this is an old post, but RamonS...Wrong. Flare 11 and previous version are 32 bit, which means Flare will never have access to more than 3 GB of RAM available to it. This is true for running a 32 bit application of a windows 64 bit machine. (The most obvious failure is when importing 100 or so large files (word docs maybe) and Flare issues an "out of memory" error.RamonS wrote:More RAM is always better assuming you run a 64 bit OS. I was talking about the OS! Yes, 32 bit apps cannot reserve more than 3GB RAM, but the 64 bit OS underneath surely can. There are plenty of OS apps and services that can make use of more memory. I'm not wrong, you may have misunderstood by post.
