Renaming a topic receives file name already exists error

Hello,

I have a topic that I need to rename to match what the window name is in the application. I'm currently using Flare 10.2 and have two projects set up for two different applications. They live on the same network drive whether that makes a difference or not, I don't know. When I'm in project A, I have a topic name AP Vendor Filter for the window in application A. In Project B, I have a topic that I need to name AP Vendor Filter for application B. You may ask yourself, why does two different applications have stuff named the same thing? Excellent question! I have no idea but that happens enough that I figured it would create a problem so created separate projects. You may also ask yourself, if it's named the same, why not create a global linking project and be done with it? You would be so right. However, although named the same thing in the applications, they are indeed different windows with different functionality. I also now realize I could have created one topic with conditions based on the target for each application. I plan that when we move to 11 and hopefully web based targets, we are currently using html help with CSH. But, I digress. I need to rename the topic I project B for context sensitive help but when I attempt it, I receive a message that the file name already exists even though the other file is in a completely separate project. Is there any way around this?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Pat

Are you using a source control system such as TFS? There may be artifacts (old forgotten files) on the server that need to be deleted manually. If so, the Flare project cannot see the errant files, so you will have to delete them directly off the network drive or source control system and not by using the Flare UI.

Thanks for your reply! I'm not using a Source Control system. So this is a basic as I thought it could be. I have two projects for two applications residing on the same network drive. I unfortunately have a window in both applications named the same but have different functionality. For CSH, I'm trying to name the topics the same as the window names in both applications but receive an error message when I try to rename the second topic.

Any thoughts?

Ha! You'd think it's a Monday.

I never rule out that maybe I'm doing something wrong. I located the alias file I last sent to the developers that they want in Excel and did a search for what I need to rename the topic to. The file name does not exist but the it is the name of the identifier I used for it. I would bet that if I delete the identifier, rename the topic, then assign a new identifier, it will solve my problem.

Is it Friday yet? LOL.
