Replicate ToC depth in Mini ToC

Post by Lsawyer »

I'm using Flare 11 and trying to create a PDF with a mini-ToC proxy. I didn't have a problem until today. Suddenly, today, the depth of the mini-ToC stopped reflecting the ToC I was publishing. It still reflects the color/formatting for the mini-ToC H1, but all of the others below refuse to reflect the depth of the formatting. I even tried to force it manually using margin left and it didn't work.

My regular ToC proxy works fine and reflects the depth but I don't want to include the first topic title in it.

I need either a way to remove the first topic title from the regular ToC or get the mini-ToC to reflect the depth of the ToC.

First, welcome to the Flare forums!

If you don't want H1s to appear in the TOC, you can go into the style sheet and you can set the CSS property for H1 to: mc-heading-level: 0;

Code: Select all

h1 {
     mc-heading-level:0;
}
That will keep all H1s from appearing in any TOCs or MiniTocs all together. If it is only *some* H1s, then you would create a class of H1, like:

Code: Select all

h1.notoc {
     mc-heading-level:0;
}
As to the depth of the TOC, make sure that you aren't trying to use a MiniToc Proxy in a document that has headings. MiniToc proxies show headings in other documents that are children of the topic in the target's TOC, but they won't show headings within the topic that they are in (which is kind of lame, but oh well).

Did that answer your question? If not, let us know.

I think this statement is only correct if you set the generated TOC to use TOC Depth for heading levels (in the target). If you use styles and place a mini-TOC at the start of a topic it does show headings from the topic itself. I am not using TOC Depth for heading levels. My mini TOC Depth is set to 3. I place it in a topic under a H2. It shows all the H3s from that topic. It also shows the H3s from subsequent topics (from the outline TOC) until it comes to either another H2 or a chapter break. The behaviour in red is not covered in the Madcap documentation, but that is what's happening (Flare v12).
