Hello,
I'm sure there is a simple way to accomplish this but I haven't found the solution in 2 days of trial and (mostly) error. I have Global Page Layouts set up for my print output (pdf) that includes a background image that contains some branding artwork along with the company logo. For my Title page I'm trying to add frames for Header, Footer and an Image container for product images. I will have somewhere between 80-100 different manuals that will need to have unique, static info populated to these title page frames (Document Number, Revision, Issue and Supersede dates as well as the manual title with the product name incorporating TM and registered characters formatted with superscript character formatting). Everything I've tried (snippets, variables etc) either results in extreme labor intensity with organizational issues (e.g. creating an individual variable file for each Doc #, Rev etc.) or getting the Linked Document dialog where making any adjustment to the information will result in losing the link. I'm sure there's a simpler way to do this but as a relative newb I'm having a bit of a time trying to figure this out. Help!
Retain Global Layouts with Static Header Info
Re: Retain Global Layouts with Static Header Info
Note that you don't have to create individual variable files for each doc that you produce. Instead you can have one variable, say ManualTitle, and then you set the value of that variable per target.
When you open the target, you can go to the Variables section, find the variable, and then type in the value to use for that target. The UI doesn't make it immediately obvious that you can do this.

Re: Retain Global Layouts with Static Header Info
I must be losing it...that's exactly what I did for my test project. I think I was trying to figure a way of being able to modify the TM and reg symbols globally and got my mind wrapped in the wrong direction. That's simple...I have snippets for those in my global project that I can slip into the variable and anywhere else. Thanks for the reminder!!
