Nav Pane issues in HTLM5

Post by ktbCA57 »

We JUST got our brand new version of help pushed out to our dev environment - but the Nav Pane is having issues - can anyone tell me what settings I'm missing or what I'm doing wrong, please?

1) One machine (laptop) has NO access to the Nav Pane, but another has the toggle icon our UI person put into the skin that allows us to access the Nav Pane. - Why would one computer see it one way and another computer see it differently.
2) We want the Nav Pane to show as soon as you open the help, but even with the toggle available, you have to manually open the Nav Pane (TOC, Index, etc) - Is there a setting or something I can do to cause the Nav pane to automatically open when any help page is called (this is csh). see attached
3) The panes aren't resizing easily - I can resize the outside frame but the the divider between the Nav Pane and the content area won't move. I had to play and play with the outside frame to get the proportions of the Nav Pane and content area pane to even themselves out and allow other icons to appear normally(rather than being mooshed together - Is there a way I can set up the output to display the window automatically so that the user doesn't have to spend so much time resizing? I know I can set the window size, but is there a preferred size that will allow everything to come up and appear proportioned? see attached.

Out of curiosity, what are the settings currently in your HTML5 skin on the Setup tab? The setting to hide the nav pane on startup is located there, as is the setting for responsive output.

ok.. i am attaching the set up settings below.. it is not set to hide. Here are a couple of other tidbits:

A) yesterday when my coworker opened the help, she didn't get the show/hide icon, but i did on my machine. However, this morning when I went in and checked, I was no longer able to see the show/hide icon - the only difference between today and yesterday was i logged off in between, but nothing else was changed.. very weird.

B) our UI person thinks that the reason it's not showing automatically is the responsive design - but the window isn't opening to the desktop size automatically. We thought perhaps I could set it to 100% window size in the skin Size settings, but I don't see an option for percentages.. only for specific increments.

What happens if you disable the responsive output temporarily?

Not sure. The UI person doesn't really want to do that.. and we need to have it approved before we try it - but the biggest roadblock is that I can do it, but i can't get the test files into a build for anywhere between 4 to 14 days because for some reason (that i've never seen anywhere else) the Dev environment I'm being forced to use is only updated that often... :-(

so I went ahead and tried this hoping to convince the Dev group to do a new build so I can see the result... HOWEVER, I didn't get that far.. I disabled the responsive output setting on the skin, then tried building and got an "object" error. When I checked messages to find out topic/file was being processed a the time of the error, it was all of the png files in my skin.

So not sure where that leaves me... once I re-enabled the responsive setting, I was able to build like usual.

Thoughts?

another addendum - I opened up the app with the online help this morning - no new help was deployed... no new build of the app... the only difference is that I logged out one day and logged back in the next. When I called help, MY system didn't show the show/hid toggle as it had the day before. I have the same problem the other person had originally. What would cause this option to suddenly disappear?
