Hi,
I have just started to use Flare for the first time and I'm trying to create HTML output using the new top navigation template.
I have a few questions around the role of the TOC (apologies if the answers are obvious I am very new to Flare).
What I would like:
5 menu items at the top of the screen (2-3 levels deep)
The rest of my topics available through the search menu
All topics to display breadcrumbs and mini toc (no matter which way a user gets to them)
My questions:
When I open a topic from my menu items they display great (breadcrumbs, mini toc) but when I search for them using the search toolbar and click on a result, the topic that displays does not have breadcrumbs or a mini toc. What am I doing wrong?
Should I have one TOC with just the topics that I want in the menus and then another TOC with all the other topics?
Or, should I just have one TOC with everything in it and just move all topics that I don't want to display in the menu 4 levels over to the right.
Any help/suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Karen
Top Navigation TOC
Re: Top Navigation TOC
You'd need one TOC with everything in it - the TOC set in the target is used by the top nav and for the breadcrumbs and mini-TOC in the topics.carrollk wrote:My questions:

I'd also suggest using a menu proxy rather than a mini-TOC proxy. It's what Flare's own help uses (example), and is a much better and more flexible navigation control than the mini-TOC. You can configure the menu proxy to be context-sensitive (i.e. show just the section of the TOC you're in, rather than the full thing), and also show parent and sibling topics. You can also choose an entirely different TOC.
In your current project, if your topics aren't showing breadcrumbs and the mini-TOC, I would guess that those topics aren't included in the TOC that you've set for the target.
