Cross reference shows up as normal text

Hi,
I have two issues with cross-references
1) I have cross-references across my document and did some edits to the text. Edits included changing the cross-reference text from See {paratext} to 'Refer {paratext}'. For some strange reason my cross-references appear as plain text and not hyperlinks.
Here's a screenshot to give you an idea of what i am talking about.

This is what I want it to look like

2) I want my cross references to have different format for print and online medium, for obvious reasons, cos you would want the page number to show up in print medium and not in online medium. So i created separate cross-reference style for print and online medium. But, flare ends up taking a single format for both. Am i missing something here?

Hi,
I'm using different mediums to achieve exactly what you are looking for, e.g. no page numbers for online. And it works fine.
1) To make sure that your settings are as you'd like them:
Can you open the stylesheet in simplified view? You will see something like this, if you filter for Link Styles:
StylesSimplifiedView.png
If you switch between the print and online medium, do things look as expected?
2) Have you created a new class for the xref? If yes, can you check that the class is applied to your cross reference? It will use the default one, if you do not change it.
3) Is the right medium used for the output? I.e. do other settings that are different between print/online appear ok?

Hi Lydia!
Thanks for listing out possible missing links. Do i need to create two different classes for print and online medium?

I did absolutely everything that's mentioned here

Any clue what I could be missing?

Hi,
to answer your question: you do not have to define two classes. In fact, this even won't work. You use the default xref class that is there and change it, or you create a new one. Then you apply that xref class to your cross reference.
When you change the style, please pay attention, which medium is selected at the top of the stylesheet editor (read border):
stylesmedium.png
Change the medium at the top, then make your settings.
Make sure your target uses the same medium.
Mediums are powerful but I think it´s a common pitfall as well.
You gave a link, for instructions you followed.
The only thing not mentioned there, is the setting of the medium in the target. So I suggest to check that.
You find the
Stylesheet medium setting in your target on the
Advanced tab.
By default it uses (default), so you may need to change to 'print' or something else that applies in your case.

Hi Lydia,
Thank you so much for helping me out. Your last point about the default style medium was the key to having the correct cross-reference.
