Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
What is the easiest way to get the Browse Sequence to follow the TOC?
If I juke around too much, I'm afraid I'll forget something or that something will drop between the cracks.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
Hi Craig, can you describe a bit more about what you are aiming for? Do you mean follow the TOC as in contain the same content as the TOC, or as in appear after the TOC?

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
I want the browse sequence to contain the same items as the TOC, in the same order as the TOC. Apologies for the confusion.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
Would that be so that the user can use a browse sequence to run through the documentation using the "Next" button?
Browse sequences are generally intended to show TOC content but in an alternate order, so there aren't any sync options. I think you need to build the browse sequence manually to reflect the TOC.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
The answer to your first question is yes.
I was hoping there would be function that I could select to say, yes, automatically build the browse sequence as an exact copy of the TOC, or no, I prefer to build my own browse sequence manually.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
You can copy all your TOC entries from your TOC and paste them into an (almost) empty browse sequence. It's not automatic, but it does half of the work for you.
Select the first TOC entry, then shift-click the last one to select them all (ctrl-A doesn't seem to work). Copy the TOC entries.
In your browse sequence, you need one entry available, and you need to select it to be able to paste the TOC entries in. This pastes your TOC entries exactly as seen in the TOC, but it leaves them under that one browse sequence entry, so you might want to then shuffle all your TOC entries out and delete that original entry. It is a bit fiddly, but that is the quickest way I can find. It doesn't seem possible to paste all your TOC entries into a completely empty browse sequence.
I think you have a nice feature request there...

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
I wonder if it is possible to copy a .fltoc file and just rename it as .flbrs...? I didn't try that.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
I just tried it. It seems to work fine. I don't know if there are any long-term side-effects.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
Do you actually need a browse sequence?
Just if you don't include a browse sequence at all, then the navigate previous/next buttons will follow your TOC order.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
Default location for your TOC is in Project > TOCs in your filesystem.
Probably best to close the project first.
Copy it to Project > Advanced > Browse Sequences.
Rename it and give it the .flbrs extension.
Open the project and set your new browse sequence up in your project.

Oh. Well heck-fire. Didn't know that. Do I still need to enable Browse Sequences in the skin if I am not including an explicit Browse Sequence?Dave Lee wrote:Do you actually need a browse sequence?

So I do this via Windows Explorer, as the project will be closed?atomdocs wrote:Default location for your TOC is in Project > TOCs in your filesystem.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
If I do it this way, then why would the Next Topic button skip the next topic and land on the topic that is two topics down? What could be wrong with the skipped topic?Dave Lee wrote:Do you actually need a browse sequence?

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
If you want your browse sequence to mirror your TOC, then you can just drag-and-drop the TOC file from project explorer into your browse sequence.
That'll create a link in your browse sequence to the TOC file; then edit its properties (on Advanced tab) and set When merging, replace node with merged TOC.

Re: Need Browse Sequence to follow TOC
I did not know that about the Browse Sequence following the TOC. Thanks everyone.
Further question - Has anyone used the Next/Previous buttons in the Top Navigation Advanced output? I'm trying to use that one but the buttons aren't showing up in my topic toolbar.
