Equation editor does not load after Java update

I updated to Java 8 Update 60. Equation editor now does not load. The "loading" message appears in the equation editor window and never ends.

I receive no error messages.

Here I have the same problem: those in our team who updated to Java 8 build 60 can not launch the Equation Editor.

We tried then on that machine to remove build 60 and install build 45 instead as this one works on other machines. Unfortunately that did not help as now launching the equation editor results in a message that Flare requires the latest update of Java and I can only click the link to the Java site or to click ok. When trying to insert an equation again, the same window appears

Sounds like a bug. You might want to report it and see what they say. (See my footer for a bug link.)

Thanks to all for the useful comments. I too reverted to a previous Java version with no success. I will report the bug. But I still cannot use the equation editor.

I noticed that with 8u60 the previous versions no longer get uninstalled. I do not know if that change was due to user request. Anyhow, try uninstalling all 32 bit and 64 bit Java versions and then install the offline installer package for only the 32 bit version. Throw a reboot in for good measure although it does not seem to be necessary. If that doesn't help contact MadCap support.

Deleted Java 8U60 and installed a previous version. Thankfully, it works fine now.

Wasn't easy to find, but here is the page with the previous Java 8 runtime versions:

I'd assume that 8u51 will be fine to use, if not try the next older one.

By the way, did someone file a bug report with MadCap about this? It is something they have to fix.

I have no idea why Oracle makes it so difficult. Sign up using a throw away email from MaskMe or 10minutemail.
