All pages are getting opened in XML Editor

Post by Anchal Gupta »

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me and help me out, what to do in a case when all the HTML Help pages of my project in madcap flare are opening in XML editor only by default. I don't know what has happened suddenly and i am not able to view and open neither my pages in Read/edit mode not able to view the content. Please help me and tell me the settings that needs to be checked or corrected?

Thanks

Hello,

in Flare's File Menu you may find Options. This opens a dialog window with "General". There, if you have the option "Auto-Reload Documents" checked this causes that all documents that were opened during the last session get opened automatically. Hope this helps.

I don't know if this is your problem, but there are two versions of the editor. One has tabs for Text Editor and XML Editor, and another version does not. This second version says Text Editor in the upper left-hand corner and has only a few icons. It also has a different favicon if you are using tab view (in my case, the favicon for my default browser). If you are in this editor, and you click on the second icon from the right (second-to-last-icon), it will open the "normal" editor in another window.

If this is what you are seeing, then perhaps all your files got opened in the second editor. This can happen, for example, when you are doing a search and replace with Find in Source Code selected. If the second editor is already open, it is what you see when you go to open/view a file. If you have a lot of tabs open, then this version of the editor might be open on another tab and you wouldn't see it. Try selecting Close All Documents from the ribbon and then open the documents you want.
