I'm looking for a way to quickly convert all the snippets in my project to text, without having to go into each individual file and convert them manually. Is there a way to do this.
I have about 15-20 files that each have anywhere from 1-10 snippets in them. I'm not excited about having to go into each file and manually convert each snippet to text. I can't find any way to do this. I need to include the files in a Review package with the snippets somehow disabled. When I created my review package, I even deleted all the snippets from the package before saving it. I was just playing around and my guess was that the snippet areas within the files might be blank (not even appear or just appear as a missing link). Strangely they all did appear, but they were still snippets, even though I hadn't included them in the review package. This won't work.
I need the snippets to be editable within the based file of each file. I need them to be fully stand-alone text within the files so that they can be edited within the review package (not as a snippet).
I'd love to hear any suggestions for how to apply "Convert to Text" to all snippets in the project, without having to open up each file and do it manually for each of them.
Thanks
Barb

Re: How can I convert all snippets in a project to text?
Hi Barb,
Welcome to the forums
But alas I think I"ll be the bearer of bad news, x2.
First, I don't believe there is any functionality in Flare that would allow one to automatically convert snippets to live text either everywhere in a project or in a select set of files within said project.
Second, I don't believe there's a way to have snippets within files that are included in a review package behave as if live text within those topics so that a reviewer may edit them directly in place.
Someone else might be able to suggest how to programmatically swap out snippets for the text they contain using some other tool outside of Flare. I for one would be very, very cautious about doing this, and there won't be an easy way to turn all that live text back into snippets. (Analyzer does have a "Frequent Segmenets" function that could identify candidates for snippets, but turning those candidates back into snippets would be somewhat of a manual process.)

Re: How can I convert all snippets in a project to text?
Thanks Nita. I appreciate the reply. I was pretty much to the point where I assumed there was no easy way to do this. It would be an interesting exercise to write some scripts to do it outside of Flare, but I'm up against the deadline so that will have to wait for another time. We don't usually import the Review Package edits right back into our project, and usually just hand edit our files based on the comments, so really it wouldn't be too awful to check out my files in Perforce, make my convert all snippets to text, and then create my review package, and then revert the files and not save them after the package had been created. Again, stuff to consider for the next time around with this project.
Until then, maybe someone will see my question that has already worked out this little issue.
Thanks again!
