PDF keyword meta-data showing up in quotation marks

Post by Jim »

Hi all -- have an issue that I can't seem to find any documentation on.

I am creating a PDF white paper, and one of the requirements is to add meta-data (title, author, subject, keywords, etc). Using the PDF Options section of the PDF target, I see the section to add these, and so I do. In the keywords section, I enter the keywords, separated by commas...

I build the PDF, then open it in Acrobat. Open the document properties, only to find that the entire keyword list is enclosed in quotation marks! Since adding quotation marks around a block of text is Boolean for “this is one monolithic block of text,” I'd prefer it to be just a list of keywords, as I entered it in the target file.

If any clarification is needed, I enter something like this into the keywords field in the target file:

printing, internet, browser, dishwasher

And come out with this in the actual PDF's document properties:

"printing, internet, browser, dishwasher"

Any ideas on how to remove the quotation marks?

I think there's a bug with commas. If you were to enter:
printing internet browser dishwasher

You'd get just the keywords, no quotation marks:
printing internet browser dishwasher

Clearly not a good workaround.

What I don't understand, though, is why it's handled differently when it has commas. If you look at the target in the Internal Text Editor, the two different entries look the same except for the commas:

Code: Select all

Keywords="printing internet browser dishwasher" />

Code: Select all

Keywords="printing, internet, browser, dishwasher" />
Commas work in the other fields (like Title), and periods work in the Keywords field, so it seems like it has to be a bug. You can log it at https://www.madcapsoftware.com/feedback/bugs.aspx.

Thanks,
