For some reason, when I try to produce a PDF with our new Cover and End page, I get "out of memory" errors 99% of the time, unless I've just build the PDF immediately upon rebooting Flare.
The new cover and end page images are around 300Kb each (with a roughly 5000x6000 pixel resolution), so I wouldn't expect this to be an issue. but without these pages everything works fine. I mean, previously we didn't use images for our cover page/end page, they were mostly text with a shaded background colour, and I never ran out of memory.
And in larger documents, such as our 3000 page uber handbook, I run out of memory no matter what, and I have 8 gigs of RAM.
Here's an example of the cover and end pages (when I am able to avoid the out-of-memory issue): http://docs.fortinet.com/uploaded/files ... vpn-54.pdf
Here is the old doc: http://docs.fortinet.com/uploaded/files ... vpn-52.pdf
Anyone have any clues/tips? I read that the out-of-memory error occurs mostly because Flare is a 32-bit application, but why would adding an extra 300kb cover page make all the difference? Is it the resolution of the images?
Thanks for reading!

Re: Out of memory error with new cover page
I have had similar issues in the past with big Visio generated images (though not with Flare 10 or 11 ... but perhaps I just got in the habit of designing defensively). To get around the problem I used Capture to adjust the images to have 'just enough' print quality in the print version of the image, thereby reducing the file sizes. I think it only hits on second or subsequent builds because of the way these things are held temporarily during the build - but that's just a hunch. The alternative you have already found is either to shut down Flare and reopen before building or often using Clean Project is enough, to get rid of all the previous temporary files from earlier builds, before building again.

Thanks AJ!ajturnersurrey wrote:The alternative you have already found is either to shut down Flare and reopen before building or often using Clean Project is enough, to get rid of all the previous temporary files from earlier builds, before building again.
It would seem that the resolution of the images was the problem. We scaled down their resolution and we no longer get the 'Out of memory' error.
It is a shame though, I liked the higher resolution...
