I am extremely new at Flare and Styles.....
I don't understand what the bulleted list options do in Flare
For example, if I choose Square Bullet List, it has no effect on either non-print or print mediums.
What am I missing?

First bit of advice, stay away from mediums until you have a need. The default media will work fine in print outputs, the print media is used when you print from an online help system.
The WSIWYG editor in Flare is better described as 'what you see is one possibility', there are a few external influences that might change what you see. The best thing to do is to build your output and check that for the final editing stage.
In effect, selecting a bullet type sets the list-style-type property for the UL element in your style sheet.
By default:
Setting the bullet type:
If you can't see an effect in the editor, build your output. Because you can't see an effect at the moment, I'd guess you've set the property in one media, and the editor is showing the other...
If you are unfamiliar with styles and cascading style sheets I'd suggest doing one of the online tutorials, it will give you a real headstart. And, if you want to be inspired and see what you can do just by changing the stylesheet, have a look at Zen Garden.
Oh, and welcome to the forums!

This isn't really accurate. When you select a bullet list from the options, as Jim is describing...SteveS wrote:In effect, selecting a bullet type sets the list-style-type property for the UL element in your style sheet.

...it sets an inline style, which, notably, would override the corresponding CSS property for a <ul> element specified in a stylesheet:
Creating a list in this manner doesn't make a change to your stylesheet.
Jim, can you clarify what you mean by "makes no difference"? Are you saying, for example, that if you insert a list with squares, it reverts to a regular bullet list? Or it doesn't matter what button you select?

Re: Bullet - I'm missing something
I was trying to keep it simple, if you format the unordered list using the stylesheet editor the code shows in the stylesheet, if you apply from the button it's in-line, which we all know to avoidMattyQ wrote:...This isn't really accurate. I tried the two approaches, using the button and using a stylesheet (ul.square{list-style-type: square;} and in both instances the WYSIWYG showed square bullets, so I'm still wondering if it is a medium issue...
