I am attempting to edit an html5 topnav skin. Every time I attempt to replace the logo, Flare crashes. This happens when I've browsed to the new image (located in the general resources/images folder), then click OK on the Insert Image window.

This brings up more questions.
Where are skin images actually stored? In other posts folks talk about using the resources/image file, but I do wonder if there is some better 'native' place.

Does capitalization matter? My image name has mixed small and caps. (it shouldn't, but...)

Is there something else I need to know?

Have you tried putting the image onto your desktop and browsing for it? Just curious if you still get the error.

Good question. So I tried it. Still crashed. Are you thinking a path length limit?

The image is a png. I also just tried creating a new version of the image. This one was color so I could see it; it did appear on the insert image window, but then Flare crashed again on OK.

Next idea?

Hmmm...

And you're doing this in the Skin Editor > Styles > Header > Logo > Background section, right?

A PNG should work in theory. My image header logo is a JPG and works fine so maybe try saving the image as a JPG and see if that works.

Another thought: I have also had some strange crashes using Flare 11 but you're running the latest version of Flare right? (Help > Check for Updates)

Thanks Mark. No luck with the png. It shows as selected, then OK and crash.
My Flare is up to date. Another good question.
I will try to get someone else in the office to try this when I get a chance. Open to any other ideas.

Images that you use in the skin are actually embedded in the skin file (flskn) itself.
They're not linked to the original file, so it doesn't matter where you keep that (i.e. the image doesn't need to be in the project).

First thing I'd try is create a brand new skin and try to insert a few different images - preferably using one that you know already works in a skin.
Then you can work out if it's a problem with all skins, or just that particular one.

If you can't insert any image in any skin, the final option might be the whole uninstall Flare, reinstall DotNet, reinstall Flare.
