Build Primary - Looks exactly like the default Flare Project
Build Primary - Looks exactly like the default Flare Project
I wanted to build my project to see what it looks like. I clicked Build Primary, and selected Online Output Tripane HTML.
What I got was the Flare default project, with none of the work that I've done. Am I missing a step or is something disconnected? Thank you in advance.

What work had you done? What files did you work on? Did you modify the skin or target?
Re: Build Primary - Looks exactly like the default Flare Pro
I have created 19 projects. I added text and images and links. I've not touched the skin or the target.
When you say "skin" do you mean the Master Pages?

Have you added topics to your Table of Contents? That looks to me like you are using the default settings in the TOC. You need to add items to your TOC. If you are using a different TOC than the one that shipped with Flare, make sure you are selecting the correct TOC in the target.
Re: Build Primary - Looks exactly like the default Flare Pro
I have built the TOC, definitely, and did not leave it as the default one.
I was reading somewhere that you had to "point" the build at your main topic before it would work? Only I don't know how to do that.

In the target settings, on the General tab, set the startup topic.

But that isn't going to solve your problem, because the TOC on the left still shows the default content from the project. It isn't showing any of your custom topics, and changing the startup topic isn't going to have any effect on that.
I still think you need to make sure that your target file is pointing to the correct TOC file.

Re: Build Primary - Looks exactly like the default Flare Pro
Thank you, that was very helpful. The first overview page shows up in a browser and actually displays the settings in the style sheet.
What I need to do is find out how to set up a project, and I think that involves style sheets, skins, and master pages. I took the training last June, so I know they exist, but what I think I need is like a process flow, which would tell me how this all works, rather than dashing from function to function. For example, step 1 might be, create your content. Then step 2 is design your skin. Then step 3 would be enter the settings for your primary target, etc.
Is there such a thing as that kind of guide? Otherwise I feel as though I'm going to next be asking "How do I point to the right TOC, so that my TOC shows up instead of the default Flare one?"

Oh wait....Master TOC, and I select the TOC I created. Right? Yep, that's how it's done. Thank you so very much. I've got a TOC that matches my project, and the style is the right one. Now I can go design a skin.

You might find the following guide helpful:
http://docs.madcapsoftware.com/FlareV11 ... dGuide.pdf
I found it in the Flare Help, by going to the Help ribbon, clicking on the PDF Guides button, and clicking the "Getting Started Guide"
This is for version 11. I expect you are probably using the latest version. If not, there is probably one for the version you are using in your version's help ribbon. But the content is going to be pretty similar, and generally relevant.
