resizing the search field in HTML5 Top Nav skin

Post by bill b »

Hi,

There's a known bug in the HTML5 Top Nav skin. If you resize the search text field, the whole thing becomes misaligned (bug #106912). Given Madcap's inaction on this, I was wondering if anyone has a workaround.

TIA,
Bill

Sorry for the late response. I haven't really had any issues with this other than when the browser is resized, i.e., non-responsive. In my current top-nav project I have two variations of the Search bar, for which I have two Search Bar Skins with all the attributes for each. Is this what you're having trouble with? Or have I, once again, totally misunderstood the issue?

Can you describe this a bit more - e.g. what you have actually done, how it is misaligned (aligned with what?), and how you want it to be aligned instead.

You can set the width of the search bar in the top nav skin, and anything less than 100% will mean the search bar is centred by default.
You can set it to be left aligned or right aligned by setting the margin to have a left or right value such as 0px (but don't set both).

Sorry I dropped the ball on this. When you reduce the height of the search bar in the Top Nav skin, the input field, the drop down menu thing, and the submit button become misaligned. Here is a screen capture of the effect when I reduced the Search bar height from 1.6 em to 1 em.

To be clearer: if you reduce the height of the search bar, the drop down and submit buttons do not resize. I hope I've made this clearer--it has nothing to do with right/left alignment, rather vertical alignment.

Hi Kwag Myers (diggity diggity)

Is there a way to embed the search bar proxy inside the topic toolbar proxy? I'd like them to be together (vertically aligned). Or can I somehow place the topic toolbar side-by-side with the topic toolbar proxy?

The Skins guide doesn't talk much about positioning of skins in a master page. Or if it does, I couldn't find it in the 470 pp. PDF.

Thanks,
Bill
