Flare 12 "crashing" constantly
I just upgraded to Flare 12 and I'm constantly getting notices that Flare has crashed. (What it seems to mean is that the action I was attempting failed, not that the whole thing went down in flames.)
Is this a typical experience? I don't know if I should be calling tech support to figure out what it is about my system that Flare 12 is clashing with, or just waiting for a service update to clean up the glitches.

Quick question. Is your operating system 32 or 64 bit?

Re: Flare 12 "crashing" constantly
Here's two things I had to do:
1. Update ghostscript to 64bit.
2. Run the compatibility troubleshooter on Flare 12.
What operating system are you using? Vista, Win 7, 8, 10? They must be 64 bit.

Mine is not crashing, but there is a "slowness" that is starting to become annoying. I did install the 64-bit version of GhostScript.
I am running Windows 8.1 on a VM. Does 8.1 support the Compatibility Troubleshooter?

We are also experiencing the slowness - opening a small project is taking forever. We did update to 64-bit Ghostscripts and my operating system is 64 bit. I think we will be going back to Flare 11 for the time being. We cannot work at this speed. Also, the folks in our group who bind to GIT are having even more issues.

Re: Flare 12 "crashing" constantly
Are you running Flare 12 in a VM? Are you allocating more RAM for Flare now? (64-bit apps typically use more RAM compared to 32-bit apps.)
I'm running Flare locally on a Win 8 64-bit Core i7 (4th gen) processor with 16 GB of RAM, and I don't see any slowness in Flare at all.
However, when I run Flare (even Flare 10 or 11) in a VM with a less powerful processor (Core i5) and less ram (2GB), Flare (and pretty much everything else) is much slower.

Have you tried working in a sample project? There may be something in your project that is causing you trouble.

For me, it's lightning quick. Errors pop up right away!Dkadilak62263 wrote:We are also experiencing the slowness - opening a small project is taking forever. Hmm. I haven't done either of these things.cruitbuck wrote:Here's two things I had to do:

What is this Ghostscript you speak of? Is it something I necessarily even have?
When you say "compatibility troubleshooter" are you talking about the Windows feature, or a different utility?
If other people are running Flare 12 without any particular issues with it crashing, perhaps I should take this up with tech support. I was trying to get a feel for whether it's a problem everyone has, or a problem that I should expect to be able to solve. Sounds like it's probably solvable, based on the responses I'm getting.

Yes, I have tried working in a sample project. The same problems occur in a project with barely anything in it.doc_guy wrote:Have you tried working in a sample project? There may be something in your project that is causing you trouble.

Windows compatibility troubleshooter is a Windows program shipped with windows since version 7. This is a link for vista, but the idea remains the same.kmorrison wrote:Hmm. I haven't done either of these things.cruitbuck wrote:Here's two things I had to do:

You will need ghost script to output PDFs other functions. Look in your Control Panel > programs and features for GS or Ghost Script. If you don't have it, it could be causing problems too.

Re: Flare 12 "crashing" constantly
Also: in Windows from the Start button, search for Program Compatibility Troubleshooter. Follow the prompts and you should find Flare 12 in a list of programs. Select it. Follow the prompts until you see Test Run the Program. Click that button and use Flare for 20 minutes or so. If that fixes it, go back to the test run box and click next and follow the prompts.cruitbuck wrote:Windows compatibility troubleshooter is a Windows program shipped with windows since version 7.
