Index build issue

Post by marchenland »

Hi, all. I am struggling with how to explain the problem, so please bear with me.

I have a PDF output with an index. I have several places where an index keyword had many pages on which it appeared; in most cases, the pages appear on one line, but in a few, the output would put one page per line, leaving a big white space under the keyword. I edited the topics, and in a bunch of cases, our translator had repeated the keyword several times in each index entry, so when I deleted the extra versions, it fixed the problem.

BUT!

In a couple of cases, there aren't repeated keywords. The keyword appears only once. Yet I'm still getting the multiple lines of page numbers. See the image:

Note that the entry 3rd from the bottom, Frenos de ruedas, displays correctly but Fluoroscopia does not. (You might have to click on the image to see this; the preview truncated it.)

Here's the screen of the image keywords and the term in the Index window:

Any ideas on how to fix this, or what's causing the problem?

Thanks in advance!

marchenland, honestly I do not know offhand what is causing that behavior and, therefore, cannot offer a direct solution. However, in my experience with Flare (versions 8 through 12 inclusive) and various versions of RoboHelp, I have found that invariably "something" will be undesirable when outputting directly to PDF. So, I have a recommendation. Try outputting the same project to a Word target and inspect the results. View the pages where those index keywords are referenced and note if there are any hard page breaks, other peculiarities, etc. Basically, what I saying is that there may be other undesirable items in your PDF that when output to word may be able to be cleansed and then converted (printed) to PDF. Just a suggestion. Hope you find it helpful. :)
