I'm creating a new section in an existing HTML5 project that I also need to output to PDF with numbered headings.
The problem I have is that there is only one topic so far, apart from front matter topics, which has a first heading 1 of "2. Introduction". This should obviously be "1. Introduction".
I have 4 topics altogether set out in the TOC as shown below:
- Cover page
- Version page
- TOC page
- First topic page.
There are no other heading 1s in any of the other front matter topics.
Can anybody point me in the direction of where I should be looking to correct this?
Thanks,
Ken
First Heading 1 in PDF Output is Numbered "2. Introduction"

Re: First Heading 1 in PDF Output is Numbered "2. Introducti
You need to set a chapter break on the TOC entry for your Introduction topic and set its autonumber to Reset so that it begins at 1. (Or something like that; I'm going on memory. I know I've got you in the right area.)

Nita's right on!Nita Beck wrote:You need to set a chapter break on the TOC entry for your Introduction topic and set its autonumber to Reset so that it begins at 1. (Or something like that; I'm going on memory. I know I've got you in the right area.)
In your TOC, right-click on the entry, and then select Properties. On the Properties window, click the Auto-numbers tab. That'll give you the boxes you need to reset the numbers:

Thanks Nita and Matty for your replies.
This was driving me nuts because I had the TOC setup as you describe above with a chapter break on the first topic page and 1 in the Reset to: field.
However, I had inadvertently selected the Increment number option and not the Reset to option in the Chapter Number section.
Very grateful for your help.
Cheers,
Ken
