Styling equations in Flare 12

Post by JenShumate »

I don't seem to be able to style equations in Flare 12. I'm using the exact same styles that I was using for Flare 11, but the equations aren't the same font, color, anything. Here's the style I'm currently using:

Code: Select all

MadCap|equation
{
	font-family: Cambria, 'Times New Roman', serif;
	color: #0D0D0D;
	font-size: 1em;
}
In addition, the images generated by Flare 12 are blurry, whether it's png format or svg. The relatively simple equations come out looking ok (not great), but the more complex equations are downright unreadable.

The only solution I can think of is to generate my equations in Flare 11, then generate my output in Flare 12 and replace the generated equations with the ones generated by Flare 11 ... the equations are in a separate Flare project that's imported into my primary project, so that can work. But it's a pain, not ideal at all.

Am I missing something here? Why aren't my styles working anymore? Help!

EDIT: I should add that I'm using HTML5/TopNav output. I haven't experimented with Word or PDF outputs yet.

I have reported this problem to MadCap Technical Support who has submitted a bug report.

did you get a response? I've just upgraded to 12 and I have the same issue. I had some nice custom settings and they're all getting ignored.

Yes, please come up with a fix for this. As it is now we have to stop distributing our manuals, because all the formulas are tiny and unreadable.

Are you using MathML or LaTeX?

Both MathML and LaTeX. I got a response from Support::
Thank you for contacting MadCap Technical Support. The issue lies with the third-party system we use on the back end to render equations. We went to a different Equation Editor with Flare 12 for more flexibility when inserting equations, but we lost some of the functionality when it comes to styling the equations.

Please note that I have submitted a Bug Report on your behalf (#11938) with our development team and you will be notified via email if a fix for this is included in a future patch or release version. Currently the workaround is to use at least Flare 11 or older to keep the equations as you had been styling.

Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding this issue.
