UI text in Search Input field - Top Nav output

Post by Dinnit »

Hi all - I am using the Top Nav header and have changed the UI text on both the HTML - Top Nav and Home Search Bar Skin editors. I'm baffled as to why my changed wording does not show in the search field for my topics but does on the home page.

I've set the language to English - UK on the Target and Project but to no avail. I can see the placeholder is still set to Search when I "inspect" in the browser. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Ah Stroud, UK, home of my ancestors! But I digress. ;)

I'm not sure either, but I wonder if looking at the skins in the internal text editor will reveal anything. For example, in both of my skins, I see a property called Placeholder set to "Search". Perhaps in one of your skins, this is either not being set at all (and so is inheriting from Flare's underlying CSS) or is set to something you're not expecting? You can change it right in the internal text editor to what you need. (Sorry, I'm grasping at straws...)

Code: Select all

          <Style
            Name="Search Input">
            <Properties>
              <Property
                Name="Placeholder">Search</Property>
            </Properties>
          </Style>

Hi Nita - an honorary "Stroudie" then :wink:

On checking the HomeSearchBar skin, the placeholder was set correctly but there was no entry for Placeholder at all in the HTML5 - Top Navigation skin at all so I've added that and the output is now showing correctly. Many thanks for pointing me in the correct direction - I hadn't thought of opening the skin in the text editor - no idea why not!
