Flare Exclusion Dictionary?

Post by ForEachLoop »

Can you exclude words from the dictionary? For example, I always want the word "irregardless" to be marked as a misspelling.

I've never done it but I would have to think "yes". In the Project>Advanced folder you can find mcdic and mcign files. They can be edited in notepad.

Thanks. I need the opposite of those two. It takes a legitimate word and always marks it as a misspelling. In MS Word, it's the Exclusion dictionary.

I have a (very) high level understanding of how this is done, but having never tried it myself, I don't know how easy this will be. I am pretty sure there was a topic on this before though, because I didn't figure this out by myself but read it somewhere.

Make a Backup before trying any of this and try at your own risk!
  1. Browse to C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare 12\Flare.app\Resources\HunspellDict and make a copy of the dictionary that you want to edit. Rename the copied file, that it has a .zip extension.
  2. Extract the contents of the zip file, then make the required changes to the required *.dic file (you may need to edit other files too).
  3. Compile the files back into a zip file and rename the file back to the original *.oxt extension.
