Compiler: Microsoft Word is not installed

Post by lanval »

Hello,

I am using Flare 12 on Windows 10 and I have Office 2013 installed.

My problem is that Flare 12 does not seem to recognise that Word is installed and the following error occurs when attempting to build a Word target:
Build failed: Compiler: Microsoft Word is not installed. To generate Word documents without Microsoft Word installed, open the Options dialog and on the General tab click "Import/Export Word Files Without MS Office."
It will work if I select the Import/Export Word Files Without MS Office option in Flare, however it suggests that this can cause issues when importing and exporting.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Michael

After the customary "delete the \Analyzer and \Output folders" and "repair or reinstall the correct version of .NET" fixes (my first ports of call when Flare is throwing a tantrum) you may need to log a bug or get in touch with Tech Support.
Started as a newbie with Flare 6.1, now using Flare 2024r2.

Now you've done the uninstall/ install Word thing I'd be tempted to deactivate Flare, and do the uninstall/ install thing with Flare.

Make sure you have full administrator rights while doing the install.

It sounds a bit like a program registration issue.

I ran into the same problem with Office 2016, but I did a full repair and that fixed the issue. I do seem to recall having to do it a couple of times, though. If that doesn't work, check to make sure the .doc and .docx file extensions are associated with Word. I got a new laptop right after Flare 12 came out, so I just chalked it up to Office not getting installed properly the first time around.

The issue has been fixed thanks to Madcap support. :-)

The problem is solved by running Madcap as an administrator:

Right-click the Flare.exe icon and select Properties. The Flare.exe Properties dialog opens.
Select the Compatibility tab.
Select the Run this program as an administrator, and then click OK.

Aha.

Makes sense. When I'm installing software I always log in a s an administrator, sometimes using an admin password while installing while logged on as a user fails.
