I must have disabled it, but I cannot figure out how to get the little indicators to appear at the top of a topic. I remember seeing little boxes I could select for variables, links, cross references, and probably other nifty things I have forgotten about.
I am sure the fix is obvious to everyone but me. I can't even come up with the search terms to look it up. And I have already toggled through every single option on the eyeball dropdown list.

These are the structure bars, and the ones that go across the top are called "spans". At the bottom of your XML editor, click the SPAN button, and you'll see them again.

There are LOTS of buttons in LOTS of places! Its hard for me to even keep track of them all!
