Remove search highlighting in html5 top navigation output

Post by BeckyM »

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone can help me with a search highlighting issue.

When using an HTML5 tripane skin you can include a Remove Highlights button, but I can't find a way of including a remove highlights option when using the Top Navigation skin.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

There is no toolbar in the top nav skin itself.

First, you need to add a topic toolbar skin (HTML5 Component - Topic Toolbar) to your project, and set it to display the RemoveHighlight button.
Then insert the topic toolbar proxy in your master page.

See the help: http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare ... _Proxy.htm

Topic toolbar buttons are now defined in the topic toolbar skin component, rather than being part of the main Top Nav skin. (Sorry, I don't have Flare running to know exactly what that skin component is called.) You can add the Remove Highlighting button there. Be sure that you associate the topic toolbar skin with your Top Nav target, as described here: http://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare12/ ... argets.htm

Sorry so brief. I hope this is enough to get you going.

I'm having a somewhat different issue, albeit related. I'm relatively new to using the top nav skin but certainly know my way around Flare 12. I can get the remove search highlight button to appear by editing the toolbar proxy selected buttons, however, the found searched terms are not highlighted, so there is nothing to turn off. I'm using the same stylesheet as my regular tri-pane HTML5 output. Also, when I select certain other toolbar buttons in the top-nav, such as favorites or forward/back history, they do not appear. Any guidance is of course appreciated.

I just noted that the dialog in which the buttons are selected does indicate that some buttons are not available in all outputs and would be omitted at build time, nevertheless I'm selecting buttons that realistically should be included. Also, the remove highlight button "works" when searching and finding content within the page (such as the browsers CTRL+F find feature) but not from the header search bar. This top nav takes some getting used to :?

For Top Nav, you must define the search highlighting in your stylesheet. Check out this post: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=26637

Re which toolbar buttons are supported in Top Nav, if you're trying to use Previous Topic and Next Topic, they are not supported in Top Nav. (Wish they were, but they're not...)

Thank you Nita. Simple enough to add span.SearchHighlight entries to the style sheet. Interesting that the previous and next topic buttons are not supported. :o Thank you for that information as well.
