When working in the XML editor, the only way i can delete text from a topic is to highlight it, right-click, and select Cut.

Based on suggestions in older posts, I tried closing and re-opening Flare; i tried switching from Ribbon to Toolstrip view and back again; but neither of these things corrected the problem.

Has anybody had/solved this weird glitch?

I've seen this happen. Or, some variation of it.

I switch to text view and edit the word there. In most cases, I find that after making one edit, I can switch back to the XML editor and the problem has gone away, letting me edit normally again.

Actually, the problem IS in the text editor... backspace and delete functions work in the XML Editor.

So I got a solution from Flare Tech Support.

Close Flare.
In Explorer, navigate to your project folder.
Delete the Analyzer and Output folders.
Delete the Users folder.

If that doesn’t solve the problem:

Go to C:/Users/<your user name>/App Data/Roaming/MadCap Software/Flare.
Delete the Flare folder.
If that doesn't solve the problem, delete the MadCap Software folder.

Sorry to reply to such an old topic, but I just wanted to thank you for this hint - that did the trick for me.

For what it's worth (if someone finds this topic). My Backspace just stopped working. Solved by adding ”Back” as the shortcut key for one of the Backspace options in File > Options > Keyboard Shortcuts tab. For me it was the second option (see screenshot), the first one deleted the entire word, never tried the third one. Might be worth trying before removing the entire working environment. It still does not work in the XML editor in Analyzer for me, so it seems to be a deeper problem, but at least a workaround.

whow, that bug still exist with Flare 2017 R3.

So I try this, hope it works:

Close Flare.

The bugg still exists in MF 2023 r2 BUT, I found a simple solution on the problem. Reactivate it in the shortcut key settings.
Follow the steps:

1. In Madcap Flare, click File
2. Click Options
3. Select Keyboard Shortcut
4. Select Command Scope: XML Editor
5. Find the Backspace option (it probably says None or Ctrl+None)
6. Change it to Back
7. Click OK
8. Finished!
