Is there any way to automate the build of a Flare target?
Ideally, I would write a Windows batch file and have it run on a schedule.
When the .bat executes, Flare would build a specified target and put the output in a certain location.
For example:
flare.exe --build C:\MyProject\Targets\mytarget.fltar --output C:\MyProject\BuildOutupts
Yes? No?
When? Or never?
Thanks!

Check out madbuild.exe. Mine is in c:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare 12\Flare.app.

Another option might be to use a batch target.

Code: Select all
C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare 12\Flare.app>madbuild
Usage: madbuild -project <project file> [ -target <target name> ]
madbuild -export <project file> -settings <export project file name>
Options:
-project Compile all or a single target in the specified project.
-target Name of the target to compile. If not specified, compiles all targets.
-export Exports the project using the settings in the specified file.
-settings Name of the export project file to use when exporting the project.Another option might be to use a batch target.

This thread is an oldie, but discusses madbuild and batch files in some detail

Re: Scripted (scheduled) target builds?
Cool, thanks! Here's a dumb question:
Can madbuild.exe be copied to a machine that does not have Flare installed, and run by providing credentials of some kind on that box?
Or would I need to have a whole, licensed Flare install on that machine?

Re: Scripted (scheduled) target builds?
When I looked into this a four years ago, I was told by MadCap that a full installation of Flare was required on the build server. However, MadCap did allow for a special build-only license to be purchased which was significantly cheaper than than a user license.
As mentioned, my correspondence with MadCap was four years ago, so this information could be out of date.
