menu proxy with linked TOC

Post by fvila »

Hi,

I have a main linked TOC with a main page at the top, looking like this:

Main page
Link to Install guide
Link to User guide
Link to Administration guide
etc

I want to create a skinless master page with the selected topic expanded in the menu proxy. For example, if Install > Prerequisites > Hardware prereqs is selected, then:

Main page
Install guide
  • Prerequisites
    • Software prerequisites
      Hardware prerequisites
User guide
Administration guide
...

I have tried many combinations of Context sensitive / Include siblings etc in the Edit Menu proxy... dialog. I tried adding a menu skin and attaching it to the menu proxy.
I always get either a very small menu (just the Main page on the main page, for example) or I get the whole TOC from top to bottom.

In the masterpage, if I enter
<MadCap:menuProxy style="mc-toc-depth: -1;mc-context-sensitive: True;mc-include-parent: True;mc-include-siblings: True;mc-include-children: True;" />
I don't see any menu on the first page

If I enter
<MadCap:menuProxy style="mc-toc-depth: -1;mc-context-sensitive: False;mc-include-parent: True;mc-include-siblings: True;mc-include-children: True;" />
I see the whole and complete TOC

The bad news is that you can't do this with a menu proxy; i.e. show the full menu, with only the path to the current topic expanded.

The menu proxy can either show the whole TOC (i.e. everything will be expanded), or a context sensitive section of the TOC.

If you use the Context sensitive option, then it can display the parent topic (only), siblings, and any number of child levels.

BTW, if your TOC includes links to other TOCs, then it's important to set the option When merging, replace node with merged TOC (on Advanced tab).

THanks Dave
I did that and I do get a context-sensitive menu.
But I get the list of chapters from each doc directly at the top level of the TOC, instead of the list User guide - Configuration guide - etc
