I want to make tests on a project, to build masterpages / scripts / css files.
I checked out a project into a test folder, removed the svn folder and am working on it.
It's OK until I want to change a file name, when I get:
Operation rename failed: the source control provider has been disconnected. The operation cannot be completed.
(this I get after clicking Source Control > Disconnect. Otherwise I get filename is not a working copy)

Re: Disconnect project from SVN
In order to "disconnect" a project from SVN -- or from any other source control platform -- you need to unbind the project from within Flare. Open the Project Properties, go to the Source Control tab, and click Unbind. This will unbind the project and you can now play with it all you want. But just understand that nothing you do in this test project can then, later, be committed to the SVN repo of the original project.
