PDF- Page Break

Post by Sorna2020 »

When printing my PDF, a natural page break occurs where the end of the first page has copy associated with a picture that is on the second page. Can I insert print page breaks in the middle of a topic?
I realize this is not the answer but I have tested: Project Organizer - TOC- Printed Output - Break Type and it has only created pages with altered margins and page size seemed to be more narrow.

If I'm understanding your issue correctly, you want to keep the image together with the content associated with it.

A better idea is to select the image and the content associated with it and make a div.ImageGroup. This will keep them together. You can do this with the Group icon on the Home tab (it's one of the items in the Paragraph group).

Or put your image in its own class of <p>. I have p.graphic, which also has a bit more space above and below, and I ALWAYS want a graphic to stay with the preceding paragraph so it also has page-break-before: avoid. As well as that, create a generic class (mine is .KeepWithNext) that includes page-break-after: avoid.

Always put your graphics in a p.graphic, and always tag your preceding paragraph with .KeepWithNext. That should do the trick, if you don't like using divs.

I'm finding that "page-break-before:avoid" on the img tab in my main stylesheet isn't stopping screenshots from being at the top of the page detached from their introductory paragraph. And nor does it work if I put it as an inline style in the IMG tag, or on the IMG's containing P tag.

Your .KeepWithNext / "page-break-after:avoid" suggestion does work, but that means sweeping the document for affected screenshots and selectively applying it, which is more work.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the capability of "page-break-before:avoid".

I agree with you - as I understood it at first it SHOULD work with just the styling on the p.graphic, but it doesn't. I don't know why it doesn't. :( So when I'm writing stuff I've just got into the habit of styling any paragraphtthat introduces a screenshot with .KeepWithNext rather than applying it selectively, just in case any edits later change its position on the page.

If anyone can explain why "page-break-before:avoid" DOESN'T work as Alan and I would have expected, please speak up! :)

By which I mean, I was expecting that if I put "page-break-before:avoid" on an IMG or P tag, and the normal flow would put it at the top of the page, then the previous paragraph would be dragged along with it to the next page and put at the top of it, above the P or IMG with the "page-break-before:avoid". That isn't happening, whether or not there's no content after the tagged element, or pages worth of it.

I suppose what I'm asking is "what actions of avoidance are taken"?
