General thanks

Post by skwpt »

As writers, we generally receive feedback when things are wrong, so I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have helped me the last year.

Transitioning from another (SQL Server based) authoring tool was more challenging than I thought it would be. I last used Flare in 2013 on a writing team of 10, but the structure was already in place. When my new company let me (Ione writer) choose an authoring tool, I went with Flare thinking, "How hard could it be?" Ha.

Members of this forum appear to be unpaid volunteers, yet many of you give so freely and generously of your time and knowledge.

I've taken a lot over the last year. I hope to be able to return the favor one day soon. :flare:

On behalf of the community, thanks for your kind recognition of the forum volunteers. Yep, we're just fellow Flare authors who are farther along the path than you. There will be others coming behind you, so soon you'll be able to reach a helpful hand back, too.

Keep asking questions!

(To all, sorry that I've been rather quiet over the last month; have had -- and still have -- big deadlines looming...)

RETIRED, but still fond of all the Flare friends I've made. See you around now and then!

As Neil Young states in "Comes a Time"

We were right
we were giving
That's how we kept
what we gave away.

Thanks skwpt.

Thank you for your kind words on behalf of all of us. Yes, we receive no tangible reward but the intangible rewards are far greater. While some of us are recognised by MVP status, there also quite a few other knowledgeable people who also give freely of their time and expertise.

We all started somewhere, feeling lost. We asked questions, we learned. At some stage we found ourselves in a position where someone asked something and we knew the answer. Some people only come to the forum looking for answers, others come to the forum to learn.

I learn more than I teach.

Lovely sentiment though, so thank you for your thoughtful post. :)
