Background:
We produce manuals that are localized (for spelling page size, and differences to industry and infrastructure terminology) to Australia, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. We have set up targets to define the page size (A4 or US) and the language (English [Australia], English [Canada], English [United Kingdom], and English [United States].
We have also set up a global dictionary (.mcdic files) for each English version on a network drive and all writer has set to use in the Flare Options dialog. Each dictionary contains the appropriate word spelling and common industry terms/abbreviations for the given locale. For example, MoPI was added to the UK, CPIC to Canada, CNI to Australia, and OAN to the US. Note that for different terms that refer to the same thing we set up variables to change them (for example, everyone uses the term Master Index, except in the UK where they use Golden Nominal).
When publishing we are to open the project, set the project properties to the language to be published, and run a spell check appropriate for the locale, and then publish the Word and PDF targets. Repeat for each style of English.
Issue:
However, I have noticed that Flare does not seem to pick up the correct global dictionary. I tested this by switching the project to use English (Australia), and then attempted to add a spelling error Madcap noted to the global dictionary for Australia; unfortunately the word was added to the Canada global dictionary.
Also in further testing I manually added words to United Kingdom global dictionary, opened a project, set the Project Preferences to UK English, and yet the words I added to the Global UK dictionary were still being flagged as typos.
It maybe I'm missing something here… Can someone point out what we are doing wrong?
