Xref changes colour in HTML5 output

I've changed my css Madcap|xref font colour to be white and in the XML editor it is but when I preview or build the content the xrefs are coloured grey.

I'm really not sure where it is getting this from. I've set grey as a colour for visited links elsewhere but I can't work out why it would change from the xml editor. I've tried updating the cross references via the tools tab in the ribbon.

Any ideas what I've missed?
