Hi,
I am new to Flare and we plan on migrating 150+ Word documents to it soon.
Our Web Team want us to reserve the use of h1 tags to the titles of our documents for SEO reasons. As a result of this, I'm trying to change the h2 styles to look like h1s, etc. I tried simply changing the mc-auto-number-format of the styles to make h2 appear with a single number and make h3 appear as n.n and I thought that might work. However, it seemed to make all of the heading numbers appear as level 1.
I tried copying the h1 style and pasting it as a new class of the h2 style (so I created h2.Heading1). When I manually apply these new classes to my headings it appears to work - the number levels are appearing correctly in my output. However, the h2.Heading1 class (and other custom heading classes) don't appear to be available for mapping to when I am importing from Word (even though I have Don't Preserve MS Word Styles enabled and other custom styles I created are showing up).
Is there a way I can get these classes to show up when mapping the style on import? Or is there another way to get my h2 style looking like h1 etc.?
Thanks,
Lisa

I'm not clear about exactly what you need. What do you mean by reserving the use of H1 styles for titles? Are you aware that you can set Flare to always use H1 as the title? (in the import dialog, set "Automatically set topic title").

They don't want us to use a H1 style anywhere else in the content. Our Word documents use a Heading 1 style so when importing our documents into Flare - I want to map the Heading 1s to a heading 2 style in Flare. However, I need the heading 2 style in Flare to look like a heading 1, i.e. just have one number (for example 1) instead of something like 1.1.

You might want to create a new "fake" Heading 1 for Titles, as the Heading numbers are what Flare bases the TOC and other ordering information on.lisabarry wrote:Hi,

Can you just copy all your styles down one level, rather than using classes?
So copy the H1 style into H2, H2 into H3, etc.
I don't use numbering so I'm not sure what effect that might have, but it shouldn't be too hard to test, and the regular heading styles should be available to map when importing.
(hmm, maybe you already have h2 headings you don't want to change, in which case ignore this suggestion.)

Is the heading numbering being imported from Word? I normally turn off auto numbering just before I do an import so that the headings come through as just the text. That way, I can easily set up the formats, including Flare numbering, without a problem.
