Flare 12 - fully updated on both Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise.
I'm trying to find out why a Word Target will build OK, but a PDF using the Same TOC comes up with - Build failed: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. - immediately after "Creating Chapters".
I another topic on the subject, the issue of tracking changes is raised, and so I am trying to deal with that issue first.
When I run the Changes Report, I have 4 instances of the following, but with different file names.
File: Content/the_menus/MENU_FILE/file_(Menu).htm
Change: RemoveChange
Creator: George2
Initials: GB
Timestamp: 20/08/2016 14:13:11
I'm familiar with the need to ensure all tracked changes are dealt with, but I cannot seem to get rid of these.
Has anyone any suggestions before I use up one of my Tech Support calls?
Many thanks.

Re: Files with changes
I've had this same error. I usually close Flare, open the Flare folder and delete my Output and Analyzer Folders. Then reopen the project, triple check which TOC I've set the Target to and set as the Master TOC. Good luck.Techno wrote:Flare 12 - fully updated on both Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise.

Thanks for the suggestion, but sadly it didn't work for me.
Guess I'll have to pass it to Madcap, but I do hate this kind of error. Like the famous Microsoft one telling you to contact your administrator - which I $%^%$ am!!!

Re: Files with changes
I seem to have found a solution almost by accident. I removed the Contents topic, and it built the PDF OK - albeit with a TOC at the very beginning. That at least was a start - if a surprising one.
I then copied Contents from another working TOC and all still works.
I could not see anything obvious in the suspect Contents Topic's HTML, but just thankful that this has been resolved.
That said, it would be helpful if Flare could have produced a more meaningful error message!!

Re: Files with changes
I've seen odd behaviour in Tocs when any of the links in the toc are relative (that is, of the form ../../Contents .. etc) rather than starting from the Contents folder (that is, of the form /Contents ..etc). In this case, the toc works within Flare and for Word output, but not for html.
The solution is just to fix the links. Not sure how they get that way in the first place though.
