How to avoid indent caused by OL for H1

Post by Niels »

Hi. I am very new to Flare and at the beginning of a steep learning curve, I suppose. Hopefully this is not too dumb a question  ...

I Imported from Word and want PDF.
The h1.headline that I am mapping to is embedded in an <ol> (which causes an undesired indent).
Only h1 headline styles are affected by this (not h2), yet I am not aware of any explicit option that I set here.
Removing this <ol> manually works fine (at least tested with one topic with no side effects observed), but I do assume that this is not the appropriate solution.

Can you tell what causes the <OL>, if this is required, where to switch this off by a Flare setting or how to best get rid of the undesired indent in an appropriate Flare/CSS manner?

Thanks, Niels

I think this is a bug in Flare, but there are a few work-arounds.
What version of Flare and Word are you using? I see this problem with Word 2013 documents imported into Flare, but not when I import on a machine with Word 2010.
We discussed this a year or so ago in the following thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21770
and it contains a few find/replace suggestions.

What I generally do is remove the auto-numbering from the Word styles before I import. That way I get a clean mapping of Heading 1, 2, 3 etc to Flare's H1, H2, and so on.
Then, If I want numbering in Flare, I add the auto-numbering values to the Flare styles.
I prefer this to removing the <OL> entries as when Flare imports word documents with numbering it hard codes the numbers, which is usually a major problem in itself.

So your choice now is to clean up your Word document (remove auto-numbering) and reimport, or do a find/replace to get rid of the ordered lists.

Thanks for the tips, I will try the suggested approach. I am experiencing this with Word 2010 and Flare 2016 r2.
