How to implement two autonumbering styles

Post by Aron »

Hi guys,

As we're making specific printed output for some special products, we'd like to have both table and figure captions. This is a first for us.

Originally, we only had 1 autonumbered style, a table caption style. With the format Table {Gn+}. This worked fine. Now, we made a second style called figure caption. We used the same format.

Of course: it didn't work. All the styles are now added up with each other like this: table 1, figure 2, table 3, etc...

Do any of you know how to implement two topic-crossing autonumbering caption styles?

Thanks in advance!

You need to distinguish between them by giving them unique series names.

For my figure titles, I include this attribute:

Code: Select all

mc-auto-number-format: 'F:Figure {n+} ';
The F is the series name, meaning "figure" (although I could have named the series Z if I wanted to; it's not a rule that it be F).

For my table titles, I include this attribute:

Code: Select all

mc-auto-number-format: 'T:Table {n+} ';
The T is the unique series name meaning "table".

You might find the auto-number format examples here helpful: http://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare201 ... amples.htm. There are more figure title and table title auto-number examples there, such as if you wanted the auto-numbers to reset to 1 at the start of each chapter.

** I see others replied at the same time **

You need to label each style to distinguish the figures and tables - people usually use F for figures and T for tables.
Have a look at : http://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare201 ... amples.htm

For Tables use
T:Table {n+}
I see you had a "G" there before - this stands for Global which means the tables are numbered across all topics rather than restarting at 1 - you might want to keep this.

I use the following definitions on the relevant styles:

mc-auto-number-format: 'GF: Figure {n+}: ';
and
mc-auto-number-format: 'GT: Table {n+}: ';
