Hi all,
I am very new to Flare and have jumped in at the deep end with a crash course in css, Flare as a whole and how to manipulate it. I have read Dave Lee's post here on Customising the HTML5 tripane skin viewtopic.php?f=12&t=19584, however I wonder if that is for an older version of Flare, and doesn't work in the 2017 version?
Specifically, I want the search bar to do a number of things that I am unsure of how to do.
- Display the Search bar in the center of the page, not to the left or right which I seem to be able to work out. I can use left; 50%, but it starts the box at the top left, not the center of the bar.
- Enlarge the search bar to be a much wider box.
- Display the search bar in the middle on both the Tablet and Mobile outputs also, instead of having it in the hamburger menu. Obviously with the mobile, the search bar may take up most of the header, which I am fine with.
I have read the above post multiple times to try and get it to work on my layout, but I am constantly doing something wrong. While I have managed to edit the css files directly and have seen some success in editing the width of the bar, but positioning eludes me. Any help is massively appreciated. I hope to one day contribute to the community here rather than just take knowledge, but I am in a time-constraining position at the moment and can't learn by trial an error alone.
Cheers,
Adsy.

Re: Customising Search Bar
Hi Adsy,
Dave Lee provided a sample project with his customized skin. I downloaded, unpacked and opened it with Flare 2017, and it works!
Dave Lee, many thanks for this sample project!!

Re: Customising Search Bar
I know he provided it, which is great and I can see that it works. What I am having issues with however is the same settings and changes are not working in my project, which is where I need it to work. I don't know what I am doing wrong as I am sure I am following the instructions correctly.

Hi Adsy,
did you ever try to look at your result with Firebug add-on for Firefox and compare it with Dave Lee's sample project?

Re: Customising Search Bar
Adsy,
Do you need to use Tripane? I started with HTML5 Tripane because it was what I was used to using. But after coming to grips with my pre-existing condition (staying with what I found comfortable), I switched to Top Nav. When you create a project in Top Nav you'll get a bigger centered search bar that I think stays displayed for Tablet/Mobile. I haven't tested it on those devices, but when I make my browser small, the hamburger menu appears and the search bar REMAINS displayed. I've been happy (so far) with switching to Top Nav.
Here is Dave Lee's online help for his company if you want to see HTML5 Top Nav in action as created by a guru. He's customized it (obviously) and puts his search bar to the right and does a lot of other things. But so far, I've used the out-of-the-box default HTML5 Top Nav skin and have been happy with it, and the search bar is centered in the default skin.

Re: Customising Search Bar
Cheers for the help all.
After much trial and error, learning and a lot of reading and tweaking, I think I have finally got it. Talk about jumping into the deep end.
Gary, I am considering doing a top level layout to see what it will look like. Time will dictate when i get a chance to try that though.
Thanks again.
