Flare 2016 r2 too slow to use

Post by KurtB »

Hi

I am using Flare 2016 r2 with the project bound to TFS. It is just my colleague & I that work on this project. My colleague is not having these speed issues.

For me, Flare is completely unusable due to severe mouse lag and typing lag. I have Flare 2008 installed and this works fine. I have had this same issue before Source Control was ever implemented so I know its not to do with that. I can't remember what I did to 'fix' it last time, I searched this forum and found some tips and it seemed to help but I can't find anything that is working this time around.

Please does somebody have any advice about this?

Thanks

Is the slowness in every topic? I noticed the decrease in performance with long topics that have a lot of tables. Do you have many topics open at the same time? Does it get better when you pause AV for a while?

My big headache is also long topics, which generally have tables in them, and just restarting Flare doesn't solve the problem. (I don't have anything in source control from within Flare either, so it's not that.)
My machine slows down until it just grinds to a halt and I can't even press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart because Flare has nicked all the resources, so I have to use the nuclear option and hold the power switch down, losing anything I've done in the process. So the only thing I can do is restart my machine several times a day...

I am also having this issue. I'll select text (to delete or move or italicize...) and the mouse lag is so bad it's almost unworkable. Not to mention checking in and syncing files! I am doing what others have suggested (report a bug), but we are having serious problems with this at my work and it's affecting our productivity. It only happened after we upgraded to r2, I believe.

That explains it! I have one 230 PDF-ed page doc that is ALL tables. It's so painfully slow to work in, even when I take out a table and work on it in empty topic and then return it. Man! Glad to hear I'm not the only one though.

hmmm, thinking about this issue the whole day :madcap:

I´m working with a notebook in a docking station and displaying my topics on two 24" TFTs.
The TFTs will be on the whole day for other programs like outlook etc.
My notebook has a small onboard graphic chip, not an external high performance graphic card.

May it possible, that the mouse lagging is a displaying issue and has to do with my stupid small onboard graphic card ????

Your graphics card would not have anything to do with it. Having more system (not video) memory might improve matters, but the root cause is likely a software bug in the tool.
